This position qualifies for a Recruitment Incentive Package up to the value of $10,000 (pro-rata part-time/temporary positions less than 18 months), and a reoccurring Annual Retention Bonus valued up to $10,000 (pro-rata part time), under the NSW Health Rural Health Workforce Incentive Scheme.
This scheme recognises the role key health workers play in enabling the delivery of rural and remote health services, and aims to provide incentives over and above award entitlements, to attract and retain staff in these areas. To recognise ongoing service in this role, once the successful candidate has served a qualifying period, they will become entitled to a reoccurring Annual Retention Bonus valued up to $10,000 (as taxable income).

About the Opportunity
We have an exciting brand new role for a Deputy Director of Nursing and Midwifery- Operations to join FWLHD to take the operational lead to evaluate current practice and process', work on continuous improvement initiatives and strategies, including being hands on to support our multi- disciplined team.

Reporting and working closely with the Director of Nursing & Midwifery, you are collaborative, solutions focused, a critical thinker who takes pride in your achievements, lead by example, proactive with team leadership experience to build and develop a strong culture, and not afraid of change, to enable growth and make a real difference to our community. 

No day will be the same in this busy role, where you are responsible for managing the day to day operational nursing and midwifery service delivery, culture, and service improvements to achieve quality patient outcomes, sustainable access and collaboration in a complex health care environment where some of your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Daily oversight of service delivery across the BHHS including the Emergency Department.
  • Providing leadership, mentoring and guidance to the Nurse/Midwifery Unit Managers as well as the Aboriginal workforce at the BHHS.
  • Oversight of the health roster, ensuring that rosters meet NSW award and legislative requirements.
  • Ensuring safety, quality and accreditation requirements are being met in collaboration with the Clinical Governance Unit.

How to Apply
To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the selection criteria in the application as thoroughly as possible:

  • Current nursing and/or midwifery registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA and at least 5 years post graduate experience.
  • Appropriate qualifications in management from Postgraduate to Tertiary (Masters level) or willing to obtain within 3 years of commencement.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills including conflict resolution, mediation and negotiation, and the ability to motivate, inspire and manage staff to achieve service and professional goals through recognised change management processes.
  • Proven ability to function effectively as part of a senior management team and to work successfully with other professionals and disciplines in the management of health care services.
  • Broad clinical experience and operational management expertise at a senior level within a health care environment, including strategic planning, the development, implementation & evaluation of organisational Strategic & Business Plans and Project Management.
  • Ability to identify, evaluate and incorporate emerging trends within the profession of nursing to contribute to strategic planning.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the role, function & funding of public hospital within the Australian and NSW Health Systems.
