What you'll be doing

To oversee the functioning of the Core Midwifery Team in the Maternity Unit and provide high standard Senior clinical leadership and management to the Unit as a whole.

Skills and Knowledge

  1. Current Authority to practice as a Registered Midwife with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  2. Demonstrates high level competency and proficiency as a Midwife in antenatal, labour, birth and postnatal care, lactation and infant feeding consistent with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council National Competency Standards for the Midwife (2006).
  3. Demonstrates ability to manage Obstetric emergencies and complex Midwifery care, as well as supporting other staff to do so.
  4. Capacity to oversee and implement educational processes under the guidance of the CMC and the MUM.
  5. Demonstrated awareness of the philosophy of midwifery Continuity of Care, and a willingness to learn and oversee its daily safe operation. As well as uphold the practice of appropriate consultation and referral, within a social, holistic and primary health care framework.
  6. Demonstrated skills in clinical leadership within a health care setting, with particular experience of supervising Midwives, TTPM and Student Midwives. Experience in effective management of teams and well developed skills in managing interpersonal dynamics.
  7. Highly developed written and oral communication skills, strong organisational skills and effective problem solving abilities, including conflict resolution.
  8. Demonstrated ability to adhere to the defined standards of ethical and professional conduct consistent with the current NSW Health Code of Conduct and/or relevant professional standards where applicable.
