The Broken Hill Health Service is seeking a Clinical Director of General Surgery. The applicant must hold FRACS.


 

Broken Hill is the centre of the Far West New South Wales outback and is 500km north east of Adelaide and 1,100 km west of Sydney. There are daily flights to major cities.

 

The Broken Hospital has 100 beds that services a wide area with a population of 25,000 people. It is a rural teaching hospital, providing acute, non-acute and outpatient services, including dialysis and chemotherapy. It has an emergency department, general medical, surgical, obstetrics & gynaecology, paediatric, mental health and sub-acute beds. Work is underway to enhance the level of ICU and CCU. Support services include Pathology, Medical Imaging (CT scan), as well as a wide range of Allied and Primary Health services.



Skills and Knowledge

  1. Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident and eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a category consistent with required role and responsibilities.
  2. Fellowship of the relevant College or other specialist recognition as provided for in the Visiting Medical Officer Determination and Demonstrated commitment to continuing medical education.
  3. Demonstrated ability to adhere to the defined standards of ethical and professional conduct consistent with the current NSW Health Code of Conduct and/or relevant professional standards.
  4. Demonstrated technical and professional competence in the specialty, including appropriate and recent hospital experience within the specialty
  5. Demonstrated participation in and commitment to quality improvement and accreditation activities relevant to the specialty and demonstrated commitment to and participation in teaching of other health professionals.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multi- disciplinary health care team.
  7. Valid NSW Working with Children Check
