This position qualifies for a Recruitment Incentive Package up to the value of $10,000 (pro-rata part-time/temporary positions less than 18 months), and a reoccurring Annual Retention Bonus valued up to $10,000 (pro-rata part time), under the NSW Health Rural Health Workforce Incentive Scheme.
This scheme recognises the role key health workers play in enabling the delivery of rural and remote health services, and aims to provide incentives over and above award entitlements, to attract and retain staff in these areas.
Packages may consist of family and compassionate travel assistance, an upfront Rural Recruitment Cash Bonus upon appointment, contributions to professional development, utility reimbursements and study assistance, in addition to relocation benefits and accommodation assistance.
To recognise ongoing service in this role, once the successful candidate has served a qualifying period, they will become entitled to a reoccurring Annual Retention Bonus valued up to $10,000 (as taxable income).

About the Opportunity
- The Aboriginal Mental Health Care Navigator will ensure systems, services and processes are established between Mental Health and non-government, primary care, social support, justice and drug and alcohol services
- The Aboriginal Mental Health Care Navigator will co-ordinate a range of preventative, health and social care wrap around responses for Aboriginal consumers to support referral to appropriate services.
- The role will work closely with the Aboriginal Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol Workforce as well as Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol services within FWLHD.
- The Aboriginal Mental Health Care Navigator will also work with and provide support to clinical teams in the provision and development of culturally informed assessment and treatment approaches.
- Ensure the social, cultural and historical contexts are at the forefront of services offered through mental health services, with the Aboriginal Mental Health Care Navigator ensuring services build on the strengths, resources and knowledge of Aboriginal consumers, their families and carers.

- Relevant qualifications/experience as per Award Classification – Social Work level 4: A bachelor or post graduate degree in Social Work with eligibility for membership of the Association of Social Workers, and knowledge,, skills and experience to meet the requirements of the NSW Health Professionals Award Level 2. Counsellor, Level 4: A Bachelor degree in Social Science, Social Welfare or Counselling, and knowledge, skills and experience to meet the requirements of the NSW Health Professional Award level 2. Occupational Therapist, Level 4: A Bachelor or post graduate degree in Occupational Therapy with current registration with AHPRA and knowledge, skills and experience to meet the requirements of the NSW Health Professionals Award level 2. Senior Psychologist; must have the equivalent of at least 9 years full time experience as a psychologist and general registration with AHPRA.
- Demonstrated knowledge of mental health issues for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with experience in mental health and /or social emotional spiritual wellbeing of Aboriginal people and their communities.
- Demonstrated ability to provide high quality, safe and connected care to consumers and their families in a person centred and holistic manner that promotes self-determination and in context of the principles of mental health rehabilitation, recovery framework and a strength based approach.
- Demonstrated high level negotiation, communication and facilitation skills including delivering education and presentation to staff and manger .
- Experience in Case Management and developing and reviewing client centred support plans.
- Demonstrated ability to initiate, lead, complete and implement quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes and lead ongoing quality improvement activities with other staff.
- Current unrestricted drivers’ licence and the ability to maintain. Ability and willingness to drive/travel as the role required. This may involve driving long distances and overnight stays.
