The Cancer Institute NSW is the NSW Government’s cancer control agency, established to lessen the impact of cancer across the state.

What you’ll be doing

There are currently two team leaders for a team of eight staff members. This role is to co-lead the development, implementation and reporting of research and evaluation projects to measure and monitor the performance of Cancer Screening and Prevention programs and activities, and to inform planning, cancer control policy and practice.

In addition to base salary:

Essential requirements

  • Advanced tertiary qualifications in an appropriate discipline such as public health, epidemiology, psychology or social science, or demonstrated relevant equivalent professional experience and training.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing research projects, including study design, qualitative and quantitative methodologies, and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and commissioning behavioural research studies, and managing contracts with research firms and other research partners (e.g. academics).
  • Proven ability to manage a team responsible for designing, gathering and analysing quantitative and qualitative behavioural data.
  • Understanding of the NSW Health Records and Information Privacy Act.
  • Experience submitting and managing projects for ethics approval by a Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC).

If successful for interview candidates must bring original copies of essential qualifications to be sighted by the panel, and one copy to provide to panel.


Pre-screening questions

  1. Please provide an example of where you have had to redesign a significant survey program in response to changing environmental conditions. What were the strength and limitations of the program, and how and why did they need to be redesigned?
  1. Please outline your experience in managing multiple priorities concurrently, whilst addressing diverse stakeholder needs in providing services given the variety and complexity of systems.
