Junior Medical Officer


To provide effective medical services to Obstetric and Gynaecological patients under supervision, while developing expertise in Obstetrics and affiliated ultrasound services in a complex clinical environment in inpatients and outpatient areas in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District or associated institutions.


Essential requirements
  • MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
  • Demonstrated clinical practice as a registered medical practitioner in the last 2 years in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
  • Completion or partial completion of Integrated Training Program (ITP) of the Royal Australian New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) or been assessed as partially/substantially comparable by RANZCOG.
  • RANZCOG trainees are expected to pass written and /or OSCE exams and passed or have registered interest for MRANZCOG exam (Written or OSCE) or equivalent.
  • Recent relevant clinical experience required to undertake the key accountabilities for this role.
  • To be able to perform clinical duties at Level 4 RANZCOG trainee experience.
  • Competency in:
    • Obstetric and Gynaecological history taking and examination.
    • Pelvic examination including speculum examination and PAP smears.
    • Obstetric antenatal care.
    • Management of labouring women including instrumental delivery and caesarean section.
    • Gynaecological surgeries and colposcopy.
    • Familiarity with Obstetric and Gynaecological imaging.
  • This position is subject to an appropriate supervision level which can be supported by the health agency. If the incumbent’s registration conditions include supervision requirements, the level of supervision must be able to be supported by the health agency for this role.
  • Valid Working with Children Check, cleared National Police Check.
  • Overseas trainees are expected to be on the specialist pathway and/or assessed by RANZCOG as partially competent or competent.
  • To be employed by NSW Health you are required to provide evidence of vaccination to comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening & Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy, this includes any amendments made from time to time.

  1. Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.
  2. Advanced ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, including the sharing of appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or services.
  3. Advanced ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise.
  4. Advanced verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences.
  5. Advanced ability to prioritise workloads and display a flexible approach to meet changing situations in a demanding and unpredictable clinical environment.
  6. Commitment to participating in training and development opportunities to further develop skills and knowledge in the area of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
  7. Previous experience in and willingness to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and training.
