Sydney Local Health District is seeking a highly motivated Unaccredited Trainee to join the Emergency Department (ED) at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH).

What you will be doing:

As an Unaccredited Trainee you will provide high quality effective clinical management of emergency patients, under appropriate supervision, whilst developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment.

The Unaccredited Trainee is the key person who works closely with all members of a multi-disciplinary team and deals with matters of an urgent or sensitive nature, whilst exercising discretion, sensitivity and maintaining confidentiality.

Decision making and supervision will be at the appropriate level according to the doctor's skills, knowledge and experience. The medical officer will be expected to adopt a progressively more independent approach to patient management according to their experience, under the guidance of and at the discretion of the appropriate Attending Medical Officer (AMO). All patients managed within the hospitals of the Sydney Local Health District are under the direct care of a specialist medical practitioner. All decisions regarding their care are to be clearly communicated with the specialist responsible for that care.

 

The Emergency Department

Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH) Emergency Department is a leader in Emergency Medicine with 80,000 presentations pa, over 70 emergency medicine trainees, a substantive research program and known for clinical innovation. The RPA ED manages the full breadth of clinical presentations and with strong clinical support from the Emergency Physicians, and good relationships with nursing staff, the ED at RPAH is a cohesive unit built on teamwork and mutual respect.  The successful applicant will need to be able to work efficiently within these teams, and communicate well with other professionals within RPAH and the community.

  1. Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.
  2. A minimum of four (4) full years of postgraduate general hospital experience including 2 years emergency medicine experience in an Australian Emergency Department or equivalent.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams including the sharing of appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or services.
  4. Advanced ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise.
  5. Advanced verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences.
  6. Advanced ability to prioritise workloads and display a flexible approach to meet changing situations in a demanding and unpredictable clinical environment.
  7. Commitment to participating in training and development opportunities to further develop skills and knowledge in the area of emergency medicine.
  8. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
