Prince of Wales Hospital and Community Health Service are a major teaching hospital and tertiary referral centre, providing excellent healthcare to South Eastern Sydney and specialist health and medical services to NSW.
Prince of Wales Hospital has 450 inpatient beds and almost 3,000 staff. Each year we care for more than 58,000 patients in our Emergency Department and around 50,000 patients are admitted to our Hospital. We also have a busy outpatient service and rural outreach service and provide more than 900,000 occasions of non-admitted patient care each year.
Our hospital is affiliated with various Universities and premier medical teaching facilities which enables our staff to provide excellence in healthcare in conjunction with our commitment to quality clinical teaching and leading medical research.
What you'll be doing
Radiation Oncology is an exciting specialty combining state of the art technology, evidence-based medicine and holistic care of patients with Cancer. Under the direct supervision of our staff Specialists in Radiation Oncology the primary purpose of this unaccredited Trainee position is to provide excellent care to patients attending the Cancer Care Centre at Prince Of Wales Hospital. During this role we expect you to develop knowledge and skills in managing curative and palliative cancers and learn how Radiotherapy can assist in their management. The role includes care of patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings, a strong emphasis on teamwork, communication and multidisciplinary interaction. Participation in a formal in-house teaching programme will increase your knowledge of specific cancer management, side effects, symptom control and Radiotherapy techniques. Presentation at meetings and engagement in research and quality assurance is required.
The purpose of the unaccredited position is to experience Radiation Oncology in a supportive environment. This role would suit Trainee considering Radiation Oncology as a career with view to pursuing an accredited position in the future. The position is also suitable for Medical Oncology, Palliative Care and other trainees that are looking to increase their knowledge of Radiation Oncology.
- Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role
- Demonstrated commitment to training in Radiation Oncology and are eligible for student membership to The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists. Post-graduate year (PGY) 4 or above
- Demonstrated excellent clinical skills, judgement and patient advocacy.
- Demonstrated effective teamwork within a complex and challenging clinical environment, with high capacity for time management, problem solving and communication (both written and verbal) skills
- Ability to work both independently and within a supervised environment, as well as part of a team.
- Demonstrated interest and willingness to teach junior medical staff and participate in research projects.
- Preparedness to move between services and geographical locations in the delivery patient care, and participate in overtime and on-call as required.
